Philadelphia: City Hotels and Accommodation

The city is approximately 7 miles / 11 km northeast of Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and full of popular hotels. Historic B&Bs are fairly scarce in Philadelphia, being greatly outnumbered by modern high-rise hotels with impressive views of the surrounding cityscape.

Those looking to stay in Philadelphia on a tight budget should consider the HI Bank Street Hostel along South Bank Street, with contains 70 dormitory beds and a spacious lounge area. Mid-range hotels are more plentiful in the city, being located in the following regions.

Center City District
Known for its eye-catching City Hall and proximity to the Italian Market, the Center City area of Philadelphia has much to offer in the way of hotels. Accommodation in this neighborhood is never far from top dining venues, shopping malls and cultural attractions, such as the Museum of American Art. Some of the most desirable Center City hotels offer river views and can be quick to fill up during popular local events, which include the Mummers Parade at the beginning of January, the Gay Pride Weekend in June, the Philadelphia Fringe Festival in September and the Annual Marathon each November.

Penn's Landing District
A lively and scenic part of the city, waterfront hotels are especially popular in Penn's Landing, being situated close to the banks of the Delaware River. Known for its historical significance, this part of Philadelphia is full of exceptional sightseeing opportunities, such as the Independence Seaport Museum and the Moshulu ship. A host of recreational activities await in the noteworthy riverfront park, with eateries and local stores never far from hand.

Rittenhouse Square
Rittenhouse Square is a stylish and chic area of Philadelphia, containing many old townhouses and a good selection of attractive hotels. Self-catering apartments can also be found here, although these are in short supply and should be reserved well in advance.

Manayunk District
Many hotels lie close to the Manayunk district, on the western side of the city center. An important area of Philadelphia, steeped in history, Manayunk is also home to a plethora of restaurants, shops and boutiques, which are popular with both locals and visitors to the district.

South Street
A trendy area of Philadelphia, South Street is known for its vibrant atmosphere, with many reasonably priced modern hotels lying close to funky coffee shops, specialty stores and bars.
